Could you do Samwise Gamgee in 17?
The tiny furious thing who in one hand wields sharp pain and in the other hides a terrible power.
The parts where Tolkien describes how Sam appears to his enemies really stuck with me,
although I’m sure I have jumbled them all up and am misquoting terribly.

Posted Kida yesterday, but I still wanted to do one for Natasha, cause she is awesome. Drawing Kick-awesome ladies is among my favorite things to do.

why is his head so big?
I suggest Cordyceps fungi :B
honestly, i just don’t know if it would still count as drawing a plant or mushroom anymore :/
can we suggest plants after you are doing using the ones around you?
i meant done*
Oooo I like this idea! We could do that! I know I’m going to run out of plants eventually.
I do want to avoid drawing from digital images so probably only ones I can get at a grocery store/Asian grocery store if I can’t find it in my backyard? Although I guess I could also go to the conservatory?? We’ll figure this out as we go, I guess, but I’ll be sure to put out a call when I run out of plants!

Sooo, now I kinda wanna do like a Project 100 of Tiny Plant People? I feel like my schedule is too unpredictable for a Project 365, but there is something really calming about painting real plants I have lying around and then painting little people with their color palette. I dunno, what do you guys think?

Autodesk Sketchbook Pro was free last week. Have some stylistically inconsistent sketches.

I got a chance to do another illustration for Inheritance Magazine! The article is about discerning God’s path in the midst of power and injustice. The author discusses not only his external struggle with injustice but also his realization of other internal idols such as fruitfulness and meritocracy. Read the full article here!
Since I always enjoy seeing people’s process, I also included some here. I had four ideas to begin with. The one we settled on was admittedly highly inspired by the maze-like Gardens of Destiny from the Sandman comics which I was reading at the time, but we chose it because it was the most interesting visually and spoke to the process of discerning God’s path and navigating around external and personal idols. I did a digital and a watercolor version and we settled on the watercolor.
It was tricky to make an illustration that would tie together two non-facing pages and I think this is mostly successful. I’m pretty happy with the results overall, although at this point I would probably do some things differently like work more on the figure and perhaps change the format to a bar across the top of the page. It is okay, learning is good.
A couple nights ago, I spent a couple hours painting a little thing to encourage my little sister who has just started med school. You can do it, Annie!
