I got a chance to do another illustration for Inheritance Magazine! The article is about discerning God’s path in the midst of power and injustice. The author discusses not only his external struggle with injustice but also his realization of other internal idols such as fruitfulness and meritocracy. Read the full article here!
Since I always enjoy seeing people’s process, I also included some here. I had four ideas to begin with. The one we settled on was admittedly highly inspired by the maze-like Gardens of Destiny from the Sandman comics which I was reading at the time, but we chose it because it was the most interesting visually and spoke to the process of discerning God’s path and navigating around external and personal idols. I did a digital and a watercolor version and we settled on the watercolor.
It was tricky to make an illustration that would tie together two non-facing pages and I think this is mostly successful. I’m pretty happy with the results overall, although at this point I would probably do some things differently like work more on the figure and perhaps change the format to a bar across the top of the page. It is okay, learning is good.

A couple nights ago, I spent a couple hours painting a little thing to encourage my little sister who has just started med school. You can do it, Annie!

The Choice by Grace Ding, based on an idea by D
I’m so excited to finally share this project with you all! This is my first real (albeit short) comic project. Its been a long and difficult process (much longer than I expected it would be), but its finally done! I’ve learned a lot artistically through this project, but I’ll save those thoughts for a future post.
I do want to explain the origin of the story though. D, one of my friends, was telling me about a time in her life when she was struggling with self-hurt issues. D told me about how, in the midst of those struggles, God spoke to her by giving her the images that form the basis of this story. It helped her through that time and inspired me to make this comic.
Thanks for reading and I hope this story can be encouraging to you as it was for me.
EDIT: I tried to upload slightly larger images because some people were saying it was a bit hard to read, but I am not sure that it will work. Tumblr still kinda mystifies me at times…. Also, I fixed the typo!

magic778 said: Are you still doing the palette meme? If so, can you do Flame Princess/Cinnamon Bun in #6? You don't have to do both, but I think they make a good duo :) If you aren't doing them anymore, please ignore this and have a great day!
Thanks for the suggestion! These kids are cute!

Ahhhh thanks for your nice words Allison! I meant to do one as a baby like I do, but then I got carried away….. I’m really happy with how these turned out tho! I feel like these are the best I’ve done so far!

Wow guys! Thanks for the great response to the palette meme! I totally didn’t expect to get any…
I’m gonna close accepting more requests for a bit until things get a little less hectic. I’ve been putting off more important projects to do this and I should really get back to them. If you’ve left a comment/ask with a request, I will try my best to get to them eventually, but it might be sporadic when I can do so.
Thanks though guys, this has been a fun break!

And stop drawing so much fanart. It’s creepy.”

I tried something different this time. I tried to paint more realistically and it was kinda difficult. But I spent enough time on this so I’m going to say I’m done. :\ *discretely crops out unfinished bits*
